BOPP Film Applications in Printing & Packaging
Knowledge Center > Applications
Introduction
BOPP films can be classified into various types based on different functional requirements and applications. This article provides a detailed introduction to the core advantages and typical application scenarios of anti-scratch, soft-touch, digital, brushed, holographic, pearlized, and cold laminating films.
1. Anti-scratch Film (Anti-scuff / Anti-scratch Film)
Special wear-resistant coating on BOPP film surface dramatically enhances surface hardness
Anti-scratch film is coated with a special wear-resistant coating on the surface of BOPP film, greatly enhancing its surface hardness to effectively resist friction and scratching.
- Ultimate Protection: Effectively prevents printed surfaces from being scratched by keys, coins, fingernails, or other items during transport, handling, display, and daily use, maintaining a lasting new appearance.
- Maintains Matte Effect: Most anti-scratch films have a fine matte texture with soft, upscale visual effects, and won’t show “bright marks” from slight scratches.
- Smooth Touch: The coating typically provides a delicate, dry, smooth feel.
- High Durability: Especially suitable for products that require frequent touching, friction, or long-term use.
2. Soft-touch Film (Soft-touch / Velvet Film)
Specially treated surface provides velvet-like smooth, delicate, soft touch
The surface of soft-touch film is specially treated to provide a smooth, delicate, and soft tactile sensation similar to velvet or peach skin, hence it’s often called “velvet film” or “skin film.”
- Enhances texture and grade
- Improves user interactive experience
- Anti-fingerprint
- Supports post-processing: Quality soft-touch film surfaces also support gold stamping, UV coating, and other processes
3. Digital Film (Digital Film)
Specially designed adhesive film for digital printed materials
Digital print ink/toner layers typically contain silicone oil and other components with low surface energy, making it difficult for ordinary pre-coated film to bond firmly. Digital film uses special adhesive with stronger viscosity and better penetration to ensure perfect bonding with digital print surfaces, effectively solving delamination and bubbling problems.
- Promotional materials printed on HP Indigo, Xerox, and other devices
- Small batch books
- Personalized labels
4. Brushed Film (Brushed Film)
Realistic metal brushed texture effect at lower cost
Achieves realistic metal brushed texture at relatively low cost, with strong metallic texture and decorative effect. It’s lighter and easier to process than real metal panels.
- Home appliance panels
- Signage
- High-end electronics shell decoration
- Gift boxes
5. Holographic Film (Holographic Film)
Holographic patterns formed by embossing, colorful visual effects
The film itself carries holographic patterns (such as light columns, broken glass, specific logos, etc.) formed by embossing, presenting colorful, dynamically changing effects under light with strong visual appeal, while providing certain anti-counterfeiting functions.
- Tobacco and alcohol packaging
- Cosmetics boxes
- CD/DVD packaging
- Anti-counterfeiting labels
- Festival gift packaging
6. Pearlized BOPP Film (Pearlized BOPP Film)
Pearl pigments create soft, elegant pearl-like luster
Pearl pigments are added during production to give the film a soft, elegant luster and fullness like pearls.
- Color enhancement and saturation: Enhances the saturation and brightness of underlying print colors, appearing more noble than ordinary glossy film.
- Opacity: Has certain covering power, can be directly used for printing or lamination to create special effects.
- Unique texture: Soft and restrained luster, not harsh.
7. Cold Laminating Film (Self-adhesive Film)
Pressure-sensitive adhesive on back, no heat or equipment needed
Back side has pressure-sensitive adhesive, lamination can be completed manually without heating or equipment.
- Extremely easy to operate
- No heat sensitivity: Suitable for laminating thermal paper (such as receipts) or heat-sensitive materials
- High flexibility: Can be applied on-site immediately
Summary
Different types of BOPP films each have their unique properties and application scenarios. Choosing the right film requires considering multiple factors such as end-use, aesthetic requirements, durability needs, and cost budget. Please contact our technical team for professional advice.
