BOPP Film Quality Standards & Shelf Life
Quality control is critical for BOPP film applications. Here is what you need to know about quality standards and expected shelf life.
Key Quality Tests
1. Optical Properties
- Haze — ASTM D1003, typical value <2% for clear BOPP
- Gloss — ASTM D2457, 60° angle, >90 GU for gloss grades
- Light Transmission — >92% for transparent BOPP
2. Mechanical Properties
- Tensile Strength — ASTM D882, MD: 140-180 MPa, TD: 200-280 MPa
- Elongation at Break — ASTM D882, MD: 170-220%, TD: 50-80%
- Surface Tension — ASTM D2578, ≥38 dyne/cm for printing
3. Barrier Properties
- WVTR — ASTM F1249, typical <5 g/m²/day at 38°C, 90% RH
- OTR — ASTM D3985, typical 1500-2000 cc/m²/day
Shelf Life
BOPP film has excellent shelf life when stored properly:
- Standard BOPP — 5-7 years from production date
- Anti-Fog Film — 2-3 years (anti-fog properties degrade faster)
- Anti-Fingerprint Film — 5+ years (coating is permanent)
- Thermal Lamination Film — 12-24 months (EVA layer can yellow)
Storage Conditions
Optimal storage: 15-25°C, 40-60% relative humidity, away from direct sunlight and UV sources. Keep rolls in original packaging until use.
